Kurrent - German Kurrent script

The Kurrent script developed from the Bastarda. The German Kurrent script - known as Kurrent - was the commonly used cursive script in the German-speaking world from the 16th to the middle of the 20th century. Occasionally it is also referred to as "German cursive" or "German script".

Sütterlin - German Sütterlin script

The Sütterlin script - called Sütterlin for short - was developed in 1911 by Ludwig Sütterlin (born 1865 in Lahr/Black Forest, died 1917 in Berlin), commissioned by the Prussian Ministry of Culture and Social Affairs.

From 1915, this script was the basic script for learning cursive writing in school. From 1935, the Sütterlin script was on the curriculum and was used in schools until the ban on broken scripts in 1941.

German Normalschrift was introduced as the initial script in schools from 1942. From 1953, this was replaced by Latin script.

German handwriting

Handwriting is individual. Some are very clean and neatly written, other scripts are real challenges. The "deciphering" of old German texts then succeeds sometimes very time-consuming.
